Brian went back to work today. It's hard after a 4 day weekend. It has been interesting adjusting to life that doesn't revolve around semesters. I miss the two week or so vacation that school would give us. Oh well.
Brian and I have been cleaning our house because his mom is coming tomorrow! She is staying until the 4th and we are excited.
I can't remember if I mentioned but we have cut out Claire's nighttime nursing. She is doing pretty good. She usually goes to be around 9:30-10 and today she woke up for the first time at 4:30. Really good for her. Anyway, our lives haven't been too busy lately. Just hanging around, playing games, and watching Claire. She makes life so good :)

Merry Christmas
I hope every one had a very Merry Christmas. We sure did! The best part was that we got to talk to Bryan! My mom had us on a conference call on Skype. He sure sounds like an African. It was so funny to listen to him talk. I wonder if that is a survival technique for Americans out there. He sounds like he is doing so good! One more Christmas for him and then he will be home soon! I was a little stressed out when he called because we were going over to the Hill's house for dinner and I had to make a green bean casserole. Well, I remembered about half an hour before we had to go so I started making it and then realized we didn't have enough green beans. sigh. So Brian ran to the store and I was in the kitchen shouting so that my brother could hear me. To bad I didn't know that the Hill's were running a little behind also. Oh well.
I let Brian sleep in on Christmas as a little gift :) I was excited to give him his real gift though. He was pretty surprised with his Wii! I also got him a Wii Fit (which I love love love). He was awesome and gave me a sewing machine! Now I have to learn how to sew! Claire loved her new Baby Signing Time DVDs. Her Aunt Lea also gave her the cutest tutu!

It was perfect because her pajama feet were little ballet shoes! I am sure she is going to just LOVE this when she is older. I hope she is a girly girl, at least for a little while :)
We went over to the Hill's and had a traditional Ham Christmas dinner. It was very yummy. Brian had fun playing some games and the Wii. I dealt with Claire who is very fussy lately because...
She is getting two teeth!! Her bottom teeth are both in and it is so cute! I tried to take a picture but she wouldn't let me. I wish teething didn't make her so cranky though.
Yesterday and today Brian and I have been super productive. (Along with lots of Wii playing) It's really a nice feeling to get things deep cleaned and reorganized. We are going to hang some pictures once Claire gets out the bath. Today we went to Walmart to look at the Christmas stuff that is on sale. I was very proud of one purchase. They had the Quattro Razor gift pack on sale for $5. It comes with the razor/blade, a pack of four blades, two makeup brushes and a carrying bag. $5. That is a HUGE saving if you were going to buy that all separately. We bought 4 of them. lol. I wont need to buy razor blades for a very long time.
Other than that the big news is that Claire has gotten crawling down pat. She started it a couple of days ago so I thought I should put up a video. Shame on me for not taking more videos. I'll try harder :)
It is so nice to be able to put her down and she will crawl to a toy that she wants to play with. She is growing up so fast! She is pretty good at pulling herself up and balancing without anything. It is so crazy.

Happy Birthday Daddy!
Today is my dad's birthday! I love my dad so much. He is so awesome! He is a righteous priesthood leader who always is serving. He is an amazing husband and loves my mom very much. He has been a great example to me of how a husband should be (Brian is a LOT like my dad) and I'm sure my brother's will follow his example when they become husbands to their lucky wives :) He has always supported me in everything. He is a great grandpa and loves Claire very much. I love you Daddy!

Happy Birthday Bry-Bry
No...not my husband...my brother! He is 20 (wow) today. It seems so strange. He wont be able to read this because he is in Ghana Africa serving a mission for our church. I just want everyone to know that I love my little brother. We used to have so much fun playing together when we were little. We were only 20 months apart. My mom always tells how he would get mad at her if she ever scolded me. He would sit by me and give her dirty looks. lol. We used to make rabbit traps in the back yard, never caught a rabbit though. I'm proud of him for deciding to go on a mission. I never thought of how hard it would be to give up two whole years until I got to be that age. That is a big sacrifice. I can't wait for him to meet Claire and I'm sure that Claire will love playing with her Uncle Bryan. I love you Elder McGrath!

Snow total for the day is......

Yay for girls!
Claire is going to have a cousin! Brian's brother Mike and his wife Lea are going to have a baby girl! We are so super excited for them! The baby is due May 7, so maybe we'll have another May 6th birthday. :) They will be pretty much exactly a year apart.
Last night there was a Ladies Night Out and I went with some friends. It was nice to visit. It started at 6:30 and before we knew it it was almost 10:00! Needless to say we were tired this morning.
We actually ventured into Silverdale today. It was CRAZY! We went to the mall briefly. It was a madhouse in there. It's just not enjoyable shopping like that. We went Red Lobster for lunch (YUM). It started snowing and so we decided to come home. Supposedly we are in for a major storm tonight. Someone said 10 inches but I don't know about that. Some of the women last night were thinking that church would probably be canceled on Sunday. Pretty much, if it snows, everything is closed. Not bad for Brian since school was closed Thursday and Friday so no seminary! I'm just happy that he gets Thursday and Friday off from work. It's kind of hard adjusting to not having the school breaks anymore. Now if we want to go somewhere we will have to use vacation days :(
Claire loves clucking her tongue now. She does it all the time and likes it when we do it too. She is also discovering the law of gravity. We will put a toy on her high chair and she promptly drops it or throws it off. So we pick it up and down it goes. Sigh. She also is starting to give us stuff. She will put something in her mouth and then try to put it in my mouth. She is still not full out crawling but is very good at getting around and getting into things.

Beautiful

We live in a beautiful part of the country...absolutely gorgeous....and I can't wait to explore more next summer.
But...my real true love is this...

Call me crazy but I love and miss Arizona desert.
*Brian's edit: It's snowing outside and Megan hates snow, I love it! My one true love...someone's been reading Twilight too much...*
Christmas Mix
So I thought I would quickly share with you the playlist I have going at work. I like to think of it as Traditional Christmas Music in a non-traditional way. It's heavy on the Mannheim Steamroller (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is awesome) and on the punk-ish versions of your favorites. I especially like the Reliant K songs, make sure to listen to at least Sleigh Ride if not 12 Days of Christmas, too. When Megan is ready for the next blog post, I'll toss this into the side bar or up at the top or something. Enjoy!!

Snow...
.
Well, I didn't think it would happen so fast since everyone told me how RARE it is....but it snowed on Sunday.
I had just been looking at some pictures my friends took of snow at their house and remarked to Brian how much I enjoyed living somewhere where it doesn't snow, when he looked out the window and laughed. I dislike snow very much. Brian is worried I will project my dislike on our kids so I told him I wont complain about it (when they are older) if he will be the one taking them to school in the snow. I would kill us all.
Sunday was pretty productive. We went early and got our temple recommends renewed by the bishop and the stake president, and we also did tithing settlement. I taught in Relief Society and Brian is singing in the Christmas Choir. The performance is next Sunday. He was recruited because there is no men and he can sing parts so he is singing tenor.
Claire has been sucking on her lips lately. Its so cute. She's also getting pretty good at standing by herself. Sometimes she has trouble placing her feet and will put one foot on top of the other but practice makes perfect!

We have given her cheerios to play with, hoping that she will start putting some in her mouth but so far no go. She enjoys picking them up and playing with the though. I cut up an egg yolk (hard boiled) and she liked playing with that too. I think some MAY have gotten in her mouth but maybe not.
This is my apron that we bought in Hawaii. I like it so much that I also didn't want to wear it as I was making TACOS! My great grandma sent us more tortillas! (I need her number again Mom) I pity those who don't have the Arizona brand corn tortillas. We actually had tacos on Monday and today. Brian asked for it because we haven't had tacos in so long and they are SO good.
Claire's crib came in yesterday. She has outgrown her Amby bed and I am really excited to see if she sleeps better in the crib. I REALLY HOPE SO. Claire sat in her bouncer for a little while and then chilled on the floor while Brian and I put it together.

Pretty huh? I like it. We will have to see how she does in it...
Brian is crossing his fingers that there wont be seminary tomorrow (they cancel it if there is snow on the roads). I wish he didn't have to go to work tomorrow!
I looked up the Midwife school in Seattle to see how much it costs. All together it would be about $46,000. Yeah...I'm thinking it will be a looong time before that happens. Plus, I would not be driving to Seattle every day. We would have to be closer to a school. Oh well.

Mah Momma
So this is Brian taking over the blog for a post. I wanted to throw a shout-out at my mom. She's a pretty good mom, I think she did a pretty good job. I still have my shortcomings, but I'll take full responsibility for those. The one thing that I think my mom did a good job of instilling upon me is to try to take a long-term view of things. Yeah, I still get frustrated from time to time, and there are the occasional impulse buys, but I like to think of myself as a pretty laid-back person who can get along with a lot of different people. That's my mom's doing.
Toss in a good sense of humor, yummy cooking, and selfless personality, and you've got a winner. Well, actually, I've got a winner. She's my mom, not yours. Neener neener.
Thanks for being a great mom, mom.

The Other Side of the Glass, birth film for fathers
I found this today and thought it looked very good. I actually teared up through it, mostly because the one thing about Claire's birth that I would wish was different is that I WISH I could have been the first to hold my baby. I assume what my midwife did was for the best, but I hope for the next time the transition to life outside will be more gentle.
Just so everyone knows, I'm not a total "hippie" when it comes to birthing. I think everyone needs prenatal care and that care has helped cut down on mortality rates, for the mother and the baby. I would never have an unassisted home birth but I really wish that there was a birthing center close by or that we lived close by the hospital so Brian would feel comfortable with a home birth. I think OBs are not necessary for low risk pregnancies but they do have their palce. I think midwives are better, overall, when it comes to birth.
**and I am not pregnant** I just am VERY into births and would love to some day become a doula (there is ONE doula in Port Angeles and the next one is in Bremerton) , or a midwife if I was really ambitious. This is my thing. Learning this stuff is what I am interested in.

They kiss!
Tonight we rented X-Files 2 (I guess). FINALLY Mulder and Scully are together! I guess that kinda gives it away to anyone who hasn't seen it but its not that big of an issue in the film. Actually its pretty much a non-issue but STILL. I've wanted them to be together for so long! They have a baby together in the tv series but you never see much with him. Yes, I am a dork.
Claire is getting REALLY good at the pincer grasp. She can pick up teeny tiny things off the ground. My vacuum is going to be getting a lot more use. It's not like our house is dirty I just need to be more diligent about little pieces of paper and lint. She is getting too big. We like to put on music and she bobs around like she's dancing. Too cute.

Just saying...
The same people who voted for Blagojevich for gov. voted for Obama for senator.

Christmas time?
It's beginning to look a lot....cloudier and rainier than usual. Not too much like Christmas, just dreary. It is getting chilly though. I can't say I'm going to really MISS a white Christmas, just because that would mean that snow comes till March or April like in Utah. The best would be snow on Christmas Day and Christmas Day ONLY. But if I can't have that I will do with no snow at all.
I'm not really decorating for Christmas this year. It's only going to be us. Brian's mom is coming on the 30th but for 25th we will be alone :( I think we will be going over to the Hill's for dinner that day. We don't really have a bunch of decorations either and I didn't want to buy any. I would rather wait until they go on sale and buy them for next year. However, we do have a nativity set and some ornaments so I thought I would put those up.
We don't have room for a Christmas tree so I'm channeling Hawaii. Ghetto huh?

7!
Claire is 7 months old today! Crazy huh? I think so. Today we went over to the Howell's house for a post-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving dinner. We decided to since we missed Thanksgiving because we were in Hawaii. It was really fun. The missionaries came and the Hills and Murray, another guy from Brian's work. Yum.
Brian's Christmas present came today! I am so excited to give it to him!
I'll try to take some pictures too. I've been lazy with the camera lately.
Congrats to my dad :) He ran a 1/2 marathon today in Memphis. He did 13 miles in 2 hours and 2 minutes. Very impressive!

Shopping!
Today my friend Jocelyn and I went down to the SUPER MALL. That is the outlet mall in Auburn and it is totally awesome. It has all my favorite stores. Plus it has a Carters, a Gymboree, a Osh Kosh, and a Children's Place. Oh, and a Baby Depot. I had fun. The only down side is that it is a two hour drive, so lucky for Brian, it is not something I will do everyday.
Other than that, we spent the night being depressed about the housing market up here. And how much we don't want to deal with buying a house but how much we WANT to be in a house. Well...at least I do.
Oh, and Claire totally EXPLODED today. Like more than she has ever done before. We were quite impressed.

Congrats!
Congratulations to Brian's brother Michael for getting into orthodontic school! He is headed for St. Louis University in July. Good job! We are excited for you!
It had to happen...
Claire got sick last night. Like vomiting sick. It was so sad to see her. It was short thought, thankfully. She started around 5:15 and stopped around 8:30. She hated it. She kept fighting the urge :( It made me feel more like a mom though. Sometimes it still feels like we are just playing house, even with a baby. But last night she was sick so we were really taking care of her. Does that make sense? I can't really explain. Maybe it had something to do with being covered in baby vomit (which I'm sure is much nicer than toddler vomit). Anyway, I didn't know how to have her sleep. I didn't want her to choke if she threw up on her back (I know, I know, I'm paranoid) so we got her car seat and put it on the floor by the bed and she slept in that. She seems to feel fine now and I am very thankful that it happened at home and not on the plane and that it was so short.

We're Back!
Well, we made it. Yesterday was a really really long day but I am proud to say that Claire did AMAZING as usual. We didn't have the luxury of an empty seat this time but all was well. It's so funny how much everyone loves Claire. She just looks at everyone so intense with those big eyes. I get so many comments. :) We didn't drive home yesterday. We stayed up in Seattle. We got up early so Brian could go to work but they sent him home to take a nap once he got there. I was really glad they did since he is getting sick but I wish we would have known that before we left Seattle. I would have been glad to sleep more too! Anyway, I'm proud to say that I am already unpacked and I have the laundry going and bread in the oven :) It was a really fun trip. I'm very thankful we could do it but it is always nice to be home, even if it's cold and cloudy and rainy like here in Washington...
